The NeverEnding Story can be likened to the realization of one's actual death. The "Nothing" is the absolute non-existence which occurs upon one's death - there is no before; there is no after. Before birth there is no consciousness to associate events. The same exists for after death. We compile resolute scenarios, meanings, definitions, forces...to explain one's eternal existence. If we are truly unable to explain our "before" we will never discover an "after" - this is likely because for the individual consciousness there is nothing...in its absolute form.
P.S. The title of this post makes it sound so fake, "artsy", and hokey. It's pissing me off.
